Dunes

We went to Warren Dunes State Park and hiked up this giant sand dune overlooking our beautiful Lake Michigan.  It was a super hot day, so we cooled off in the water with sweet Shine after our hike.

sun love

After dinner, when our baby is asleep, and the sun is setting, our home away from home glows.  It's full of love.

Sunday, June 10, 2012

This is my other baby.  I've been carving this giant wooden sphere out for what seems like forever.  Since we are spending much of the summer in Michigan, I brought all my supplies out here and set up a makeshift wood shop in the garage which has been dreamy.  The sphere will be inlaid with super detailed freestyle embroidery that I have been working on since last year.  It's been a tedious process, which I love.
Simultaneously I'm working on my F/W 2012 line of jewelry and have some very exciting pieces in the works!

Underlined: Woolgathering by Patti Smith

This little book by Patti Smith is a dream.

I dreamed of being a painter, but I let the image slide into a vat of pigment and pastry-foam while I bounded from temple to junkyard in pursuit of the word.  A solitary shepherdess gathering bits of wool plucked by the hand of the wind from the belly of a lamb.  A noun.  A nun. A red. O blue. Twittering threads caught in the thorns of an icy branch.  Running in place, a ghost in vague expanse, I opened my arms to the sovereign trees and submitted to their pure, unholy embrace.   Woolgathering p. 49

MI

We're spending some time out in Michigan, where I have a garage to work in.  I've been trying to carve wood with a drill out on our balcony in Chicago, which is incredibly messy, and sometimes you just need to make a mess.  I haven't been posting much about what I'm working on, but I'm focused completely on my art now.  I still will be putting out a line of jewelry each season, but my art is my main focus, and that feels really good.
