Beach Days

We've been spending some time under a tent on the beach.
Nursing my girl on the sand after a swim in Lake Michigan.
Reading about Hemmingway
Eating lobster and corn on the cob
Butter.
Latching on to patterns

Hoping for routines
Then cursing at them.
Trying to get a hang of being parents.

Color Code Part II

I made these necklaces while I was very pregnant and did not have the energy to photograph them until last week.  They are a simplified version of Color Code, my Military Ribbon Necklaces.  They hang long and are have less of a fiber feel than most of my original work.  I think that's a good thing.
I like how this line was born.  It is an extension of a previous work that was initially inspired by a few colors I kept surrounding myself with.  Then it sort of grew into what it is now.  I will be debuting a new one each day and are available at my Etsy shop for $35.

Tuesday Poetry Post

I am reading The Paris Wife which is a novelized version of Ernest and Hadley Hemingway's life in Paris in the early days.  It's sort of my dream book since A Moveable Feast is one of my favorites of all time.  I'm at the part where they meet Gertrude Stein for the first time.  This is what she has to say:

A Long Dress

by Gertrude Stein

THAT is the current that makes machinery,
that makes it crackle,
what is the current that presents a long line and a necessary waist.
What is this current.
What is the wind, what is it.

Where is the serene length,
it is there and a dark place is not a dark place,
only a white and red are black, only a yellow and green are blue,
a pink is scarlet, a bow is every color. A line distinguishes it.
A line just distinguishes it.

Summer Night

We had a little dinner party with our friends Barry and Kevin in Michigan last night.   I can't take credit for the beautiful table, the fresh flowers from our yard, the pretty candles, or the cooking.  That was all David.  Yep, he's pretty amazing.

The Doughnut Vault

I'm a happy girl because I finally got my doughnuts.  Last week David, Shine, Woody and I waited in line at the Doughnut Vault and were lucky enough to experience doughnut nirvana.  They lived up to all the hype.  Best doughnuts ever.

Ticking Away, The Moments That Make Up a Dull Day

These super cool pocket watch necklaces are available in my shop for $22!  They come in a cherry red gift box mounted on a necklace card with the Pink Floyd lyrics, "Ticking Away, The Moments That Make Up a Dull Day."

Rebrand

I am very excited about the new signs I designed for my booth for the summer craft fairs.  The large vinyl one seen a few posts back I had made and I designed it to look like a reader board.  The second one I put together myself.  It took many hours because I did not want to screen print it because I hate screen printing (I burned out years ago when I used to sell Strong Girl tees and hand printed each one) but I wanted it to look like it was screen printed.  I printed my logo onto t-shirt transfers and cut each and every little letter out.  I even hand cut the wooden dowel rods with my tiny coping saw.  I had to do everything twice because I wanted the sign to be seen from both angles.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

My Mom

Have you ever met someone who is so incredibly good at what they do it sort of blows your mind?  That's how I feel about my mom and her nurturing skills.  My mom came over Tuesday and made everything ok.  She is amazing.  I don't know what I would do without her.  Thank you mom

Alone with some Oysters

On Monday night David had a work function to attend and I was alone with the little lady again.  I had another rough day and did not feel like cooking,  on top of  feeling a bit cooped up and was desparate for some oysters, so I threw her in the Ergo and we sat by ourselves on the patio of GT Fish and Oyster and I had the nicest dinner with my baby.  The patio was not technically open, but they were kind enough to let us dine there.   I didn't want to bother any of the people eating inside in case she started crying, but she was a little angel.
