Before I went to Purdue University I studied at Lake Forest College, a teeny tiny private school on the North Shore. The town of Lake Forest is one of the richest in America, loaded with HUGE homes that would blow your mind. (Needless to say, that town wasn't for me and I transferred after two years) I just stumbled upon this lovely story from City Damsel's blog about Grace Groner, a 100 year old woman from Lake Forest who lived in a tiny one bedroom home with only a few pieces of furniture and few belongings. She recently passed away, and left $7 million to her alma matar Lake Forest College! Apparently back in 1935 when she was a secretary at Abbott Laboratories (where she worked for 43 years) she bought three shares of $60 stock from the company and never let go of it, and that early decision essentially is what made her rich. Isn't that incredible!?
