In Memory of Skinatt

On Sunday I lost a great friend from college to a horrible car accident. Rummaging through old memories all week filled my empty heart, just a little bit. Here's to Julie.

Pretty Dresses

While I was in Vegas working all day at the trade show, my sweet, sweet husband surprised me with new dresses when I got home! He has the best taste. Here is a photo of one of the dresses. (I'm wearing the dress in my previous post, but it's hard to see it)

I'm so tired

Here I am in Vegas at the tradeshow. I'm so tired, it's hard to be "on" for 9 hours a day, three days in a row. I am so not a people person and always prefer being alone. I'm glad I went though, I made some sales, got some orders, and made a lot of contacts!

Anthropologie

So I've been getting all depressed because things aren't going as planned at the trade show here. I have only sold a few things which just stinks. On top of it all, while I was going to the bathroom, my belt fell off me (I was using a cool chunky necklace as a belt) and it fell into the toilet. I mean, completely into the toilet! I was just done. When I got back to my booth, my sweet husband who has been helping me said a buyer from Anthropologie came and really loved my bags and rings and said that she thinks they are great for the store!!!! She said to my husband, "Tell Michelle I will be emailing her" So excited!!!!!!!!!!

I'm drowning

I'm here in Vegas at the trade show. They are saying that these specific shows (Magic and POOL) used to bring in 100,000 buyers. They'll be lucky to get 30,000. This recession #!@#$*&^

I need to learn how to swim.
At lease I get to enjoy Vegas at night though!

I got Carried away

Perhaps I am overly sentimental, (there is no perhaps, I am extremely sentimental, always have been and always will be) but every time I see the scene in the SATC movie when Carrie was cleaning out her wardrobe with all the girls watching, and she put on the pink tank/tulle skirt that she wore in the opening credits to the tv show (when she gets splashed by the bus), I get the chills and a bit teary eyed. It was such a great moment in the movie and so cool to revisit old episodes simply by looking at a few dresses. Sigh. I loved the show and was sad to see it end. During my hermetic years, every night while I was sewing I would watch the reruns they played at 10pm. Every night. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda were sorta my friends too.
That outfit has just been on my mind today.

Brooklyn Bridge

Thomas Kellner is another interesting photographer from Germany. He creates his photographs by taking a TON of images of a building, or a bridge in sequential order, and then fits the negatives all together to create one big image. No digital work here. Below is the Brooklyn Bridge, and under that is the Kinzie Street Bridge in Chicago. I was with him on this shoot on a clear, hot day in the middle of summer.

Prefontaine

I feel like I've been reborn. It's going to be 60 degrees in Chicago today! Even though it will go right back to being cold this weekend, I don't care today. I woke up and my little Woody Guthrie (aka Steve Prefontaine when he's running) and I went for a run and it felt amazing. Running is home for me. I've felt that since I was 11 years old. Since I haven't been running for a team since college, it's harder and harder to run in the snow and cold, especially since I live in the city where the sidewalks are so narrow and nasty after snow. Today, my runner's heart is warm and happy.

I LOVE THIS!

I want this skirt created by Dana Ayanna Greaves. It's so cool.

Is there such a thing as too much sewing?

Everything I look at is in double vision, and red spots are covering all I see because of the obscene amounts of sewing I've been working on. The red spots are coming from constantly looking at these red puff balls I am sewing one by one on these bags. Will it ever end?

Peanuts Suck

I finally looked online to see the list of food that has been recalled because of the peanuts containing salmonella. I knew we were ok because our peanut butter is from Whole Foods, and they don't use the peanut supplier in Georgia that caused all this.
Only then did I find out that Kashi Dark Chocolate Oatmeal cookies have been recalled. We recently ate a box of them, and we're both fine, but it just makes me feel like peanuts suck right now. I know it's not the peanut's fault, but the fault of the devils at Peanut Corp. who sent out peanuts that had tested positive for salmonella. (It tested positive, so they retested it, and it was negative, so they sent it all out. Maybe they thought the salmonella magically disappeared) Eight people have been killed because of this, and 588 people were sickened from this company's bad choice.)
Above is a plushie by Clara, a talented artist who sells on Etsy. I thought it fit well with the topic above.

Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld's spring 09 couture collection for Chanel makes me feel weak in the knees. His inspiration for the collection was a piece of white paper. Almost every creation in the collection is white, along with incredible sculptural white paper hats made by Katsuya Kamo.
